Adopting AI for show is insufficient. Spellbook founder Scott Stevenson has observed that some firms adopt AI to “make a big press release [and] look prestigious and innovative for their clients” “without actually significantly reducing their number of billable hours by being too efficient.” The firms whose AI is window-dressing will not survive as clients begin keeping score.
The gap between lawyers who can use AI effectively and those who cannot is widening every month. The legal market is paying attention—an X.com article Michael Showalter wrote in March 2026 explaining how he drafts with Claude was viewed over 135,000 times. Firms that wait out of caution will lose. You are too busy not to learn what AI can do.

Yes. A lawyer still sets the strategy, judges the output, and owns every word. But with proper context and prompting, AI’s junior lawyer work is often excellent. Lawyers who conclude the tools cannot do this work have usually never been shown how to direct them.
Designing the workflow end to end; drafting with the model rather than around it; spotting and fixing what it gets wrong; writing instructions and supplying context well enough to get a professional draft; and encoding the firm’s own procedures and templates so every lawyer works the same way.
